US Navy SEAL TrainingYou have been chosen to undergo the tough US Navy SEAL training schedule. Apprehensive and sweating buckets? It’s not easy to be relaxed when you know of the difficult challenges you are going to face during the training session. But do remember one thing – not everybody gets here, at the threshold of US navy SEAL training. You did it and take inspiration from it. Square your shoulders and prepare to face the training challenges. Starting it SEAL training is torturous and brutal. It takes over 30 months to train a Navy SEAL for deployment. A trained SEAL is skilled and equipped to perform any task in any situation. These usually include diving, combat swimming, navigation, demolitions, weapons, and parachuting. SEAL training pushes your physical, mental, cognitive and psychological levels to the limit. The basic concept of all SEAL training is Teamwork. US navy SEALs are taught and trained to trust one another completely depending on each other in the field. Teamwork, trust, coordination form the founding stones of every SEAL training session. US Navy SEALs are trained to operate in small units. The units are trained in the art of intra and inter unit communication. Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL BUD/S training is divided into several phases: 1. Indoctrination BUD/S lasts seven months. The initial indoctrination ranges for a period of five weeks of learning the expectations and ways of Navy SEALs. The indoctrination phase also educates and gives the soldiers time to prepare themselves physically and mentally. Indoctrination is usually followed by eight weeks of basic conditioning, eight weeks of SCUBA training and nine weeks of land-warfare training. Basic Conditioning This is the most challenging phase of the training session giving potential Navy SEALs a taste of what is to come. It is no wonder that more than 96% of soldiers drop out voluntarily during this phase. Trainee soldiers undergo rigorous running, swimming, calisthenics exercises including learning small-boat operations for eight weeks. One-two mile ocean swims and running challenging obstacle courses are a regular daily feature for these trainees. All trainees are timed individually and if any one does not meet the mark, the trainee is simply put out. There are no second chances. Down Proofing Another important part of basic conditioning is drown-proofing. A trainee Navy SEAL learns to swim with both his hands and his feet bound. Down-proofing exercises at this stage include: • bob for 5 minutes Surf torture This exercise is also called "cold water conditioning." The water temperatures are usually around 65 degrees Fahrenheit and never going beyond 68 degrees F. Trainee Navy SEALs are ordered to do some calisthenics or run a mile and a half down the beach in their wet clothes and boots. Then they go back into the freezing water. Some drills require that teams carry their rubber boats over their heads as they run from one task to another. This is just the start! The worst is yet to come! |
