US Army Ranger


It’s a matter of great pride and honor to be a US Army Ranger but, you only get to become one after ounces of sweat and pain! You require buckets of grit, patience and commitment combined with dedication and motivation to become a US Army Ranger. It’s a way of proving your loyalty and love for your country. Many people also see it as pure ignorance and foolishness to sacrifice own life for the sake of country. But, it is not foolishness but bravery and utter selflessness propelling many youngsters to try their luck at becoming a US Army Ranger.

Qualifications

There are many ways of becoming a US Army Ranger. The foremost important step is your decision to join the Army Rangers. Once decided, everything falls into place. If already in the military in any capacity, things become easier. If you a civilian, your best bet is to contact an ‘army recruiter.’ The recruiter will enlist you on the US Army Ranger contract and get you into ‘Airborne School.’ Following training, you will be assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment to attend the Ranger Indoctrination Program or the ‘RIP.’ But, the recruiter will only enlist you if you happen to meet the US Army Ranger qualifications.

 

• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien.
• Have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Be 18 years of age or older.
• Be able to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test -- AFPT
• Be eligible for a Secret Level Security Clearance.
• Score 50 or better on the ASVAB AFQT and have a GT -- General Technical, score of 110 or higher.

Training schedule

US Army Ranger training schedule commences with a nine-week camp of ‘Boot camp.’ Following completion of ‘Basic Training’ in boot camp you will attend ‘Advanced Individual Training.’ This training period will see you earn your ‘Military Occupational Specialty or MOS.’ The length of this training period varies in length depending on your selected MOS.

 

Army Airborne School

This is a three-week course requiring great reserves of mental and physical energy. The course is also known as ‘Basic Airborne Training.’ The course is designed to teach you the techniques involved in parachuting from airplanes and landing safely. The course wraps up with a final test of a non-assisted jump.

 

Schedule of Airborne school:

• Ground week – This is an intensive program of instruction to build individual airborne skills.
• Tower week – This is a part of your individual skill training program. It aims to build your team effort skills.
• Jump Week – This week long training camp requires you to successfully complete five jumps at 1,250 feet from a C-130 or C-141 aircraft.

 

The Ranger Indoctrination Program or RIP: RIP begins immediately after graduating from the Airborne school. The Ranger Liaison determines your ability to serve in the 75th range regiment. The Indoctrination program lasts for four weeks. It consists of physical training and continuous preparation for service in the Regiment. It also acquaints you with the various the operational procedures, equipment and Regiment standards.


Being a US Army Ranger is tough. You enlist as a novice, untrained and unskilled but emerge to join the regiment fully trained and skilled in combat.
