SEAL Team SIX - The US Navy Special Warfare Development Group
SEAL Team SIX (SEAL Team 6) was renamed DEVGRU though to many it is still known as "SIX". SEAL Team SIX is the US Navy's main counter terrorist unit and represented the advancement of CT ideology when SEAL Team TWO based in Virginia started working with a two platoon group that was training for a terrorist action at sea. This two platoon unit was known as "MOB Six".
SEAL Team SIX was commissioned in 1980 and became operational the next year and was led by Richard Marcinko, the original Rogue Warrior. SEAL team SIX is essentially the US Navy counterpart to the Army's Delta Force and the two units frequently train and operate together.
DEVGRU's official mission is the provision of intelligence and delivery of CT capability for the US Navy and US Special Operations Command as well as acting as a testbed for testing and development of equipment and techniques for use by SEAL teams and other Special Forces units.
