Steps to become Navy SEALs

desert sealsThe US Navy SEAL qualification requirements are not just about physical screening tests, ASVAB scores, age, citizenship or gender; there is more to them! The maximum age limit for joining the SEAL program is 28, which simply means that you need to start early, maybe as early as 15 years. There are certain requirements that are never mentioned in the “Book of Requirements” for a US Navy SEAL but are as important, because they will help you through your SEAL training in more ways than one. So let us take a look at some of the steps that can promote your chances of becoming a US Navy SEAL:

Step#1: Learn To Be a Team Player
Being a team player is very important. As a Navy SEAL it is critical as you have to operate as part of small units within enemy territory. As a team player, you have to cover your SEAL mates’ backs. As a team player, you have to think about your team first and then yourself. As a team player, you have to act in such a way that it helps you to protect your team. How can you be a team player? It is not something that is taught in schools or is written about in books – it is something you have to learn within your current environment. Take up a sport as it will help you to analyze your skills as a team player and also help you to improve it.

Step#2: Leadership Skills
Leadership skill is an integral part of Navy SEAL training. For example: if you are out in enemy territory with your team and your team leader is killed then you should be able to take your team to safety without any casualties. That is what leadership skills is all about – making the right decision, taking charge of the situation and leading from front.

Step#3: Education
Those who have knowledge will always be armed. Every aspect of the SEAL training is associated with knowledge – knowledge of the weapons, knowledge of stealth, knowledge of foreign languages and much more. In schools and colleges, science and mathematics are treated as important subjects and truth is that Navy SEAL training incorporates both science and mathematics for training and missions.

Step#4: Enlist After College
Once you are out of high school or have graduated, you are ready to enlist in US Navy. You can enlist in the Navy as early as 17 years of age or you can get an advanced degree and then enlist in the Navy or for the SEAL program. You can even attend the OCS (Officer Candidate School) and enroll for the SEAL program as an officer.

Step#5: Enlist and prepare for Boot camp
Once you are enlisted in US Navy, you can opt for the SEAL program. You can even sign up for DEP (Delayed Entry Program) and do workouts with SEAL instructors as this will prepare you more or less for the BUD/S Physical Screening Test.

Once you are selected for BUD/S, all the knowledge, leadership skills, team skills, and other skills, gained over the years, is going to help you to get the SEAL Trident.
