Requirements of Becoming Navy SEALs

special-operations-navy-specialistBecoming a US Navy SEAL is not a walk in the park; but then if you want to become a SEAL you will need to start somewhere. There are specific requirements that you need to meet in order to enter a Navy SEAL program. The US Navy SEAL program consists of 12 months of pre-SEAL training followed by 18 months of specialized and pre-deployment training. SEAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: FOR CIVILIANS First things first – only Men are eligible for the SEAL program. The basic requirements for civilians to enter a SEAL program include: • You should be a U.S. citizen • You should not have any felony convictions (This is important for security clearance). • Your vision should not be any worse than 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other eye and should be correctable to 20/20 • You should not be color blind. • Your age should be 28 or less. • Your ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) score should be 104 or higher including “AR” and “VE” and should be 50 or higher in “MC” category. • You should pass the Diving Physical Test. • You should pass the Physical Screening Test Requirement (PSTR), which includes: a) 500 yard swim (side stroke, CSS stroke, or breast stroke) within 9 minutes b) Rest for 10 minutes c) 42 push-ups within 2 minutes d) Rest for 2 minutes e) 50 sit-ups within 2 minutes f) Rest for 2 minutes g) 6 pull-ups – there is no time limit h) Rest for 10 minutes i) 1.5 mile run within 9 minutes Qualifying the minimum Navy SEAL requirements mean that you will have a 6% chance of getting through BUD/S without quitting. You should clear the BUD/S physical fitness screening test at Boot Camp to qualify for the Navy SEAL program. If you appear through the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) even then you will have to pass the BUD/S physical fitness screening test at Boot Camp. If you are already enlisted in the US Navy then the good news is that you can get a taste of SEAL training after completing boot camp. SEAL training is provided by SEAL instructors at Great Lakes and this will definitely get you into good shape for the BUD/S training. The one thing that you need to remember is that the toughest phase of SEAL training is the BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition / SEALs) phase. This phase has the maximum number of drop outs because the training is physically and mentally taxing. If you can prepare for this phase in advance by attending post boot camp training for SEALs at Great Lakes or Special Forces training, then getting through BUD/S, especially Hell Week, is going to be much easier. The BUD/S training is a training focusing on survival in harsh conditions, team building, and physical and mental strength. It is seen in most cases that those who have cleared BUD/S have become SEALs because no other training is as difficult as the BUD/S training. Like SEALs say, “The only Easy day was Yesterday!”

I’ve read through almost each page on this website and I’ve fully understood everything they are talking about, for example the requirements, about BUDS, about anything else I need to know. It has been my dream for years to become an US Navy SEAL. I would love to become one of the best. There is just one problem. I am Dutch, not American. But I’m 15 years old, so I still have my whole life ahead of me…. Just a bit of info about myself. I speak, read and write in 6 different languages (Dutch, Polish, English, German, Spanish and French), I was a former kickboxer and now I’ll begin my Muay Thai training. I’m a high educated student. I’m still learning today…. :P As a little boy, I’ve always wanted to be a soldier. I looked on the internet, I read through books and I’ve asked people about different kinds of armies (special forces, recon forces, USMC, SAS, SPETZNAZ, French Legion, etc…). The one that caught my eye was The US Navy SEALS, because they have the best military training and they will only accept the best of men. Any other information that I could use would be helpful. Thank you.

I want to make my father proud!

I always dreamed of becoming a Navy seal! Why cant girls join!!! Is this sexist or is the training just to hard for girls!

  11. Shawn

Federal law prohibits females from being assigned to a combat position, or job. The Seal program is the Navy’s elite special forces, and all of the “jobs” in the Seal program is combat related.
Over and above that, the training is just about the most intense, and grueling training of any in the world. The attrition rate runs from 70% up. The female body is just not built for the physical training required and involved.

I really want to be a SEAL SO am thinking about joining the navy just to be SEAL but I have epilepsy and its controlled with medication so I don’t think I can even qualify. Or can I ? Other than that I am fit and very strong willed and workout everyday so i know I would have a chance…

i will fucking cut all my hair off, bind by chest, do Basic 5 times over if they will just give me a chance! I’m the best shot at my hunting club (100/100 sporting clay’s, gauge), i’m a Master SCUBA Diver, i run 3 miles a day-every day-year round (Including winter) i’v competed in the iron man, i can put 8 bullets though 1 hole with a Glock 18 wail the target is moving. i’m a Rescue Diver. I’ve trained all my life to become a SEAL and now i cant. i even fought over my asthma and now have no attacks at all, as in not in the past 10 years (i’m 15). i can pick a master padlock, blindfolded, in under 4 min with only a paperclip. i also speak 5 languages (Arabic, Zulu, English, Chinese, and Spanish).

THE FACT THAT I CANT JOIN THE SEALS IS BULL!!!

  14. SpecOps

Women cannot become SEALs because their periods attract bears. fact

  15. Lindsay

Pshh I could pass that physical!!!!! Too bad girls can’t join! :(

  16. MCKENNA

im a girl and i agree with kathleen hall and i would do the training as many times just to prove that a girl can be as tuff as a guy… really let girls join!

  17. Victor
