Here are some hot and fast facts about US Navy SEALs:

  • The Navy SEALs started out in 1962 as an Elite Special Force of the US Navy.
  • SEAL stands for sea, air and land.
  • US Navy SEALs have 8 teams and they are SEAL Team 1, SEAL Team 2, SEAL Team 3, SEAL Team 4, SEAL Team 5, SEAL Team 7, SEAL Team 8, and SEAL Team 10.
  • The maximum age for applying for SEAL training is 28 years and the minimum training schedule is of 52 weeks.
  • Different SEAL teams have headquarters in different parts of the US like Virginia, California, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
  • Navy SEAL sharpshooters or snipers can easily hit a target from 100 yards and hit simultaneous headshots
  • US Navy SEALs have some of the fittest men and women aboard. One of the greatest examples is that of U.S. Navy Seal, Commander Christopher Cassidy, who is a part of the STS-127. He went to space aboard the shuttle Endeavour as a mission specialist on July 15, 2009 and became NASA’s 500th astronaut.
  • Navy SEAL’s are also known as Frogman. A frogman is a combat diver or combat swimmer.

  • During March of 2003 the US Navy SEALs took part in the invasion of Iraq. This Navy SEAL mission was called Operation Iraqi Freedom.
  • navyseallg_040908The first Navy SEAL death reported in Iraq was that of Petty Officer 2nd Class Marc A. Lee, 28. Lee was killed on Aug. 2, 2006 when he was involved in a firefight against insurgents in Ramadi. He earned the Silver Star posthumously.
  • On October 14, 2006, Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor, another Navy SEAL sacrificed his life to save his comrades. He threw himself on a grenade tossed by Iraqi insurgents into their sniper hideout. He saved the life of 4 fellow SEAL’s
  • Lt. Michael Murphy was killed in a fierce firefight with the Taliban behind enemy lines deep in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.
