M14 Sniper Rifle

Posted July 28th, 2009 by Navy SEAL

The M14 is an old weapon firing the heavier 7.62 NATO standard round and has been out of production for over 40 years.

US Navy SEALs maintain an inventory of modified M14’s as sniper rifles given the extremely high accuracy over long ranges and killing effectiveness provided by the large round.

Originally seeing action in Vietnam, the weapon served briefly as the primary infantry weapon of the US Army however on full automatic the weapon became uncontrollable.

The US Navy SEALs are currently using the modified M14 in both Iraq and Afghanistan today which is a superb testament to the design and build of this weapon.
