No, I am not talking about the Commando movie! Nor am I referring to the zillions of commando video games which haunt every computer store in every country. I am talking about the real live commandos – the real action heroes who by sheer bravery and grit accomplish many feats – exterminate enemies and make our nations a safer place to live.
Commando names
Everyone would love to know the names of these real life heroes but this is not possible. US President Jon F. Kennedy declared that on joining the elite commando unit of the army, the soldier would cease to exist by his name. All papers, honour rolls and credentials would refer to the soldier by a code name. And on top of that, a commando is never identified on sole account. He is always tied to his commando unit. Thus, knowing the names of individual commandos is a tough proposition. It is easier to distinguish commando units by the specific country they serve.
The Belgium Commando
The Belgium commando unit is perhaps the toughest in the world. These commandos are inducted early into the unit. They undergo vigorous training in guerrilla warfare. The Belgium commando unit is trained in all means of combat ranging from physical hand to hand, eye to hand and legs. The Belgium commando unit wears special uniform only when assigned to foreign countries on special missions. It has an ethic code of loyalty and trust which serves the Belgium commandos well on the country borders.
US Commando
Probably the most fearsome and skilled commando unit in the world! The US commando unit has always been on the move serving its own country and fighting against terrorism in foreign lands. The US commandos are also skillful management leaders donning leadership roles. The commonly used code names include – Eagle, Hawk, Blue and Swift. US Commandos are trained to be skillful marksmen to be able to survive in no man land with minimal refreshment. US commandos are skilled in bioterrorism, nuclear weaponry and sophisticated night bombing schedules. The US commando unit works with Navy SEALs and the Green Beret to advance US army philosophy.
The Israeli Commando
Formed after World War II, the Israeli commando unit works closely with Israeli intelligence forces of Mossad to curb anti terrorist acts. Israeli commando units employ women to watch and maintain over homeland. The commandos are fast in action with agility and nimbleness matching those of the wild cheetah. They move about disguised detecting any untoward signs. Israeli commandos do not hesitate to use tactics of guerilla ware fare, bio terrorism, sophisticated weaponry and nuclear armoury to achieve their ends.
The Indian Commando
The Indian commando unit is referred to as the best in Asia. The Indian commando undergoes vigorous training to patrol the borders. The Indian commando units are skilled in the art of guerilla warfare and sophisticated weaponry. Indian commandos go by their code names and are often sent to Israel to undergo special ammunition training camps for more than a month.To be a commando is a matter of pride and courage but it demands a price of invisibility where no one knows your true identity. Anonymity has to be the second name for a commando.

Refresh my memory, were not highly trained “commandos” guarding the Sri Lankan cricket team when they were attacked? The Sri Lankan entourage said that their “commando” security ran helter skelter with their tails b/w their legs when attacked by a bunch of salwar kameez ragheads from the mountains.

Regarding the Mumbai attacks, it was a challenging operation where the adversary had taken up good positions. The battle was hard fought, and in the end the Indian commandos did prevail.

Yes that’s true Pakistani SSG are very well trained very dangerous but, what Pakistanis don’t know it is regardless whether you are vegetarian or non vegetarian you are soldier, and Indian NSG don’t believe in Shahadat because they are killers not losers who loves shahadat. In 1984 another misadventure of Pakistan who is a signatory of Shimla agreement which states that Siachin will remain as demilitarized zone but, since Pakistanis are liars and cowards they send their 18 highly trained brave SSG commandos who loves Shahadat to capture Saltoro ridge which was unmanned by then. When India discovered the breaching of Shimla Agreement, just 4 regular Indian Troops led by Major Ban Singh gave Shahadat to 16 highly trained best commandos of Asia Pacific and took 2 as a prisoner who are still rotting in Tihar prison(As Pakistan leaves its braves to die and doesn’t claim its soldier as always) in just 2 hours.
The difference between Indian and Pakistani soldiers or commandos are Indians are inspired by their love to motherland but, Pakistanis are inspired by love to Islam for them Islam means more than country

Above the NSG are the Indian army’s elite PARA COMMANDOS who are not meant for internal duties like the NSG. They wear maroon caps unlike the NSGs black . Highly equipped and modernised these beasts will eat their enemy alive .
SSG is that force which used a heavy concentration of smoke shells to cover their move into Lal Masjid against young unarmed girls and boys thus burning them alive with those white phosphorous smoke candles. Attrition was collosal and the dead were buried en masse .

Hey .. Indian Armed forces are among the best trained in the world .. I am myself a product of a well known military school and know what kind of training indian soilders go through ..
and we have proven it .. Indian forces have crushed Jihadi forces in Kashmir on the other hand Pakistani, US and Russian forces have been unsucessful in dealing with Terroists in Af-pak region..
Also Indian Army has controled sepratists activities in NOrth East India.
It is tru that we aren’t immune from terroists .. the attaks in mumbai are an example .. But these are cowardly attacks .. the jihadis know that they can fight a true war with the Indian Forces .. so they are targating soft targets .
But in Pakistan they have no fear for the pakistani and US trops thats why they can take hostage an entire police accademy..

Dear Brainless Pakis : I just want to remember what happened to the Battle of Longewala December 4, 1971 fought between assaulting Pakistani forces and Indian defenders at the Indian border post of Longewala, in the Thar Desert our 120 soilders who fought against 2800 Pakistani forces including Tank unit, but we fought only the one Jeep-mounted RCL.we have defend our positions till the air support arrives our pilots flown the plane in the early morning eventhough they dont have the clear sky and destroyed the tanks.our Soilders guts and bravery is still running in my heart.when pak army call for Pak airforce they dint respond them.finally i advise youPaks to get good training.chota boys

United Nations Operation in Somalia I (UNISOM I), during the Somali Civil War, Pakistan was the first country to respond to the call of the United Nations. On 14 September 1992 five hundred Pakistani troops arrived in Mogadishu to launch the United Nation humanitarian campaign. Deployment of the security force was preceded by the arrival of an advance party of 50 United Nation observers, drawn from different countries, led by a Pakistani Brigadier.
At this time, attacks by armed gangs on incoming and docked ships as well as air strips were common. They also looted food supplies arriving under international humanitarian aid before they could reach delivery and distribution points. The Pakistani security personnel (ex 7 Frontier Force Regiment) were therefore assigned the task of securing the sea and airports, escorting food convoys and ensuring smooth distribution of relief supplies. The Pakistani Contingent was also instructed to recover unauthorized arms to further enhance the safety of peace-keeping and humanitarian efforts. Provision of medical aid, rehabilitation of people and reconstruction of infrastructure in the war—ravaged areas were also part of the program. Pakistani troops secured the Mogadishu airport to make it safe for relief flights. They also cleared the nearby port of armed bandits who could pose a threat to the anchoring and off-loading of ships carrying grain and other edibles for the famished people.
In order to enlarge the scope and scale of peace-keeping and humanitarian work over thirty-seven thousand troops, drawn from more than two dozen countries including the US, Italy, France and Germany were inducted by March 1993 and UNOSOM -1 was converted into UNITAF (United Nations International Task Force). Pakistan, whose strength in later months rose to over 7000 troops, became the main operative contingent in the most war-ravaged part of Mogadishu.
The Pakistani troops were asked by the United Nation Force Headquarters to carry out an inspection of the weapon storage sites of Farah Aideed, to whom the date and time of inspection had been communicated in advance. Nobody at the United Nation Force Headquarters was able to foresee his reaction and his power to arouse the feelings of his followers against those who were carrying out the inspection. Even as their colleagues were engaged in distributing food at one of the feeding points, the Pakistani inspectors were ambushed by Aideeds followers. The ambushers were using children and women as human shields to prevent being fired back while the road-blocks they had set up made Pakistanis withdrawal difficult. Though taken by surprise and totally exposed, the Pakistanis fought their way back, avoiding civilian casualties. In the process twenty-three Pakistanis were killed and sixty-seven sustained injuries. The Olympic Hotel Incident of 3 October 1993 took place during one of these operations when 75 US Rangers who were attempting an arrest on high level members of Mohammad Farrah Aideed’s militia became stranded. The grim battle lasted eight hours. The US Rangers suffered 17 dead and 77 injured while one U.S. Army pilot was captured by Aideed forces. The U.S. 10th Mountain Infantry Division, along with Pakistani troops, was mobilized and sent in to the hot zone to aid the U.S. Rangers in their exfiltration. The exfiltration was a success and the wounded were admitted to the Pakistani hospital at Soccer Stadium.
The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, Admiral Jonathan Howe and UNOSOM Force Commander, Lieutenant General Cevik Bir expressed special appreciation for Pakistani troops’ determination and professionalism and thanked them for helping the US troops. Major General Thomas M. Montgomery, Deputy Commander of the United Nations Forces in Somalia in a television interview said, “Many of the soldiers are alive today because of the willingness and skill of the Pakistani soldiers who worked jointly in a rescue operation with Malaysian and American soldiers in most difficult and dangerous combat circumstances.” He thanked the people and Pakistan Army for sending, “such splendid soldiers to Somalia who we feel proud to serve with. Pakistani soldiers have been completely dependable even in the most difficult circumstances. They have shouldered a huge and dangerous load for UNOSOM and the Somali people.”

The war in 1971 was lost because the east Pakistanis were also against us because of you Indian’s controversy but you hide the attack you did during the same war in west Pakistan you lost. I wonder on what grounds are the comparison made. Taking a logical view, US should have the best commandos because of the experienced warfare.
Similarly, since India and Pakistani army are derived from British, the British and Indian forces must be on the same expert level.

you forgot the Dutch specials forces. KCT and BBE are one of the most highly trained forces in the world. They even train the Belgian commando’s. They often train together with Britains SAS.

(1) SRILANKAN CRICKET TEAM ATTACK BY TERRORIST :
You must read the news regarding that day multiple times.The Srilankan Criket team was given protection by the Police force Elite group. They are no where near the SSG. And mind you, we dont train our SSG Commandoes to protect the cricket team, our police is supposed to do this.
(2) SWAT VALLEY
The operation Carried out by our ARMY(not the SSG) is the most successfull operation. They have cleared the area in a very short period of time.
Not even the Americans could do it in Afghanistan so far, your INDIAN ARMY lost battle in JAMMU KASHMIR.

1972 was a bad day in pakistan History and all plained by the INDIANS to break our country. I think you forgot the defeat of 1965 when you went to UN, requesting them to get the WAR stopped. You were defeated by out numbered Pakistan Army…..WORLD history.

I am seeing many stupids pointing out the Mumbai attacks as an inefficiency of the Indian forces. They have no idea of the reality.
You cannot imagine how huge those hotels were. The commandos couldn’t go blazing all out on them because of the terrorist’s dastardly tactics.
they would fire from a spot for few minutes and retreat after setting fire to the entire space. and the last thing an Indian commando (or any commando from a standard force) would do is to harm any hostage in the process.
Do not even think that the commandos who dies were no match for the terrorists. It was the result of an extremely brave and selfless move from the NSG, they came out open in the central stairs where they were exposed to fire from all angles. It was in this move that Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan lost his life. Never forget that the NSG is not a force that suffers causalities easily.

@Michael: it’s the other way around. During their ECO-training Dutch KCT’ers get trained in the Belgian Commando Training centre of Marche-les-Dames. All of the Dutch Jump Masters also learned their skill’s via the Belgian “Despatcher”-course at Schaffen.

It does not matter if it is the pakistani indian american russian chines or any other army commando or what ever. The brave military men work around the clock. To save their people. It does not matter really every commando force has its own draw back. Start with my countries commando the Indian NSG’s with the capacity to become the worlds strongest but yet not. Only 3 cityes have commando bases if their is an attack else wher its a difficult task to take the commandos their. Next the paki commandos. You kidding me when you call them strong. Look, people take this to serious. Everybody is like nooo My country’s special forces is the best … BOOHOO. This is true, do some research.. The training of the Belgium army is one of the thoughest in the world.. Basically 90% of Europes paracommando-troopers get there special ‘airborned lincense’ IN Belgium.
Also the US has a V hard training and a very nice arsenal.
Israeli troops control the special art of Krav manga which takes forever to learn … so they are very though.
About the Indian i don’t really know much.

ok, 1st of all I never knew SSG existed!! In any case they must be decent lets agree given Pakis do get some US expertise, not thier own but some Chinki support in nan-chaku training as well. But thats about it, I hv spoken to SAS, SEAL friends and can vouch that they consider Indian military apparatus as the best in Asia even ahead of China.
When talking about the commando framework India has a very complex groups established. From NSG to SPG to Special Forces desert to the MARCOS to the GARUDS to the air para it gets quite complicated to explain, however in a nutshell I would say that the Mumbai Special Comando forces of the police who get special karate and jiujitsu training would most likely be parity to SSG. Essentially our own guerilla units have far more field experience with the Kashmir, NE and Maoists than anything Pakis have faced. Even the AMERICANS are coming to India to train now a days. Just the sheer number of specialized forces ensure India has better specialist training than any other force in Asia. The Singaporeans, Malasians, Koreans and the Japanese have been in the past 10 yrs quietly coming to India for training of officers and foot comandos, not to include the joint exersises with the Russians, British, French and Isrealis as well. Our commandoss also go for joint training and intensive sessions with the Isrealis, Russians and US now a days gaining valuable training that in quality is far better than what the so called SSG can ever get in Pakistan. So purely on a budget/training and facilities and equipment and also physical training the Pakis would get downgraded.
Some people have mentioned Kargil above, my cousin who currently is posted in J&K was present as a young officer when 10 Pakis a mix of SSG/NI soldiers were handed over to the Pakistani side. None of the 400 killed were even acknowledged by the Paki side officially till Musharaf himselv admitted of official complicity. Its quite a shame when your own country does not recognize you for giving up your life in the field!! Sah, very difficult to believe any sane institution can even exist in such an environment.
I think now that India is training the Afghans thay will end up being better than the Pakis in the next 2-3 yrs. We are helping with special forces and also developing a border fornce in line with the BSF on the Paki Eastern front. Pakis should aim to get parity with the Afghan forces now vs. worrying about India or China. Jai Hind

I found this site and this pretty old post by accident and i must say i am suprised to see the Belgian Para-Commando’s rank nr 1, mainly because they are not Belgium’s best, we have another unit called the LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol) that is actualy regarded at the best in our country. It’s members come from the Para-commando’s (minimal 2 years of active duty) and requires another 6 months base training plus about 1-2 years of specialized training inside the unit.

SSG is a joke compared to indian commandos and special forced.
The terrorists took over your GHQ, killed bhutto, took your main police academy hostage, attacker the sri lankan cricket team (SSG commandos ran off when they heard gunfire) and the terrorists blew up a naval base and all your airplanes in the naval aviation wing. A good commando unit knows how to prevent attacks also.
Not mentioning the terrorists where only 60km from your capital when the failed pakistan army SSG offense began.
Its not the SSG’s fault that they are a failure the fault is the nation’s which is itself failed. How can you expect with a 5 billion military budget to come anywhere close to india which has a 40 billion military budget and growing.
